FIDI - FIDI Isn't a Disk Imager

FIDI can also interpreted as Fast Intelligent Disk Imager.

FIDI (Fidi isn't Disk Imager) is a utility which can be used to take full or differential partition disk images. It can be used to capture only used blocks. It works at the raw disk level and supports both SCSI and IDE drives. It supports both gzip and bzip2 compression. The goals are to optimise it to be used as a patch/diff utilty for the disk so as to restore the disk to any prior known state when the imaging was done.

Possible uses include :

  • Restore images on same type of hardware multiple times.
  • Restore disk to a previous known state after disk failure.
  • Take incremental backups of disk
